Black Clay Kurinuki Coffee Tumbler – DEPTH – 300ml

This ceramic kurinuki tumbler is made entirely by hand by Ukrainian ceramic artist Andrii Tyrsa. It is carved from a solid block of black clay using the traditional kurinuki technique, without the use of a pottery wheel or molds. Shaped by removing material rather than building it up, each cup develops its own dense form, tactile surface, and individual character.

Inspired by the Japanese yunomi form, this handleless cup is designed for everyday use while retaining a strong connection to traditional handcraft.

Kurinuki & wabi-sabi
Kurinuki is a hand-carving technique in which the vessel is formed by cutting into a single mass of clay. The exterior surface remains raw and expressive, while the interior is hollowed by hand. This process reflects a wabi-sabi approach, where natural texture, asymmetry, and visible traces of making are valued rather than hidden. No two cups can be repeated.

Use
With its handleless tumbler form, this ceramic cup fits naturally into quiet, everyday moments with coffee, tea, or matcha. The weight, thickness, and tactile surface invite slow, attentive use. Materials & making
The cup is made from high-fire stoneware using black clay and finished with a food-safe glaze on the interior. It is hand-carved, glazed, and fired at high temperatures above 1200°C. This process creates subtle variations in color and surface while ensuring durability for regular daily use.

One of a kind
Each kurinuki tumbler is individually carved and fired by hand. Variations in form, texture, and surface are a natural part of the process. The exact cup shown in the photographs is the one you will receive.
