This handmade ceramic matcha chawan is created using the kurinuki technique and designed for matcha tea rituals and mindful daily use.
The bowl is carved entirely by hand from a single block of clay, without the use of a pottery wheel. Its form is solid and grounded, with a strong sense of weight and stability that feels natural and confident when held in the hands. The exterior surface retains clear marks of the kurinuki process, giving the chawan an expressive, tactile character.
The interior is smoothly glazed, creating a visual and tactile contrast with the raw, textured exterior. Subtle variations in glaze tone and depth add richness to the surface and reveal new details with every use.
This piece is made by ceramic artist Andrii Tyrsa as a one of a kind work. Each chawan is created as an individual artistic expression rather than a repeated design, with careful attention to balance, proportion, and ritual use.
The chawan works equally well for traditional matcha preparation, tea rituals, or as a ceramic collection piece in an interior space.
Use & Experience
This ceramic chawan is designed for traditional matcha tea rituals and slow, attentive preparation. Its larger volume and stable proportions support a calm, grounded rhythm of whisking and drinking matcha.
The kurinuki texture enhances the tactile experience, encouraging presence and focus during tea practice. Beyond daily use, the chawan also functions as an interior accent or a collectible piece of studio ceramics.
It can also serve as a thoughtful gift for matcha lovers, tea practitioners, and collectors of handmade ceramic works.
