Ceramic Chawan – ZEN – Handmade Matcha Bowl

This handmade ceramic matcha chawan is created using the kurinuki technique and is designed for matcha tea rituals and mindful daily use.

The bowl is carved entirely by hand from a single block of clay, without the use of a pottery wheel. This method gives the chawan an organic, slightly irregular form and a strong sense of material presence. The surface reflects the natural marks of hand shaping, making each angle visually and tactilely different.

The interior is smoothly glazed, creating a balanced contrast with the raw, expressive exterior. This contrast enhances both the visual depth of the chawan and the comfort of use during matcha preparation.

This piece is made by ceramic artist Andrii Tyrsa as a one of a kind work. Each chawan is created as an individual artistic expression rather than a repeated design, with careful attention to form, balance, and ritual use.
