This handmade ceramic chawan belongs to the Dune series and is created for matcha tea rituals and mindful daily use.
Its sculpted surface texture is shaped entirely by hand, inspired by the natural movement of sand and wind. The form is organic and slightly irregular, allowing the bowl to feel grounded, balanced, and comfortable when held with both hands.
The surface is not layered, but carefully sculpted from a single block of clay, creating a rhythmic relief that changes with light and touch. This texture gives the chawan a strong tactile presence and a calm, meditative character.
This piece is made by ceramic artist Andrii Tyrsa as a one of a kind work, created without the use of a pottery wheel and shaped using author handbuilding techniques.
The chawan works equally well for traditional matcha preparation, tea rituals, or as a ceramic collection piece in an interior space.
Use & Experience
This ceramic chawan is designed for traditional matcha tea rituals and slow, attentive preparation. Its rounded form and balanced weight feel stable in the hands, supporting a calm rhythm of whisking and drinking.
The sculpted surface creates a distinct tactile experience, encouraging a moment of pause and presence during tea practice. Light interacts with the relief differently from every angle, making each use slightly unique.
Beyond daily matcha preparation, this chawan also functions as an interior accent or a ceramic collection piece, valued for its sculptural quality and quiet strength. It can also serve as a thoughtful gift for matcha lovers, tea practitioners, and collectors of studio ceramics.
